Should You Select A RB Or QB First

The age old question of how to build your fantasy team. Who do you pick first. There are valid arguments for both. You can build a team around a quarterback. A good running back will give you more points over all, to let you have a winning season.

The reason I always pick my QB first is because there are a limited number of good quarterbacks in the league. Many teams use the running game much more than the passing game. Then there is the problem of some teams having the best passing game, losing the QB before the season starts and having an unknown step in to fill the big shoes. You don’t really know what you are getting. If you pick your QB in the 2nd round, you might be left with an unknown or a quarterback who does not make as many plays as the running back on the team.

However, there are equally valid arguments for choosing a running back first. The biggest one being, a good running back can rack up the points for your team. You do not want to delay choosing your running back, because the best ones will be gone in the first round. Yes there are more of them, but only a few get the big yards every game. A good running back can be the centerpiece to a fantasy victory.

The debate over quarterback vs. running back may go on as long as fantasy football exists. The best choice is really what makes your team work. If you enjoy the running game and watching RB’s plow through a defense like they weren’t even there, pick a running back first. If the sight of the ball sailing through the air is the reason you love foot ball, you need to pick the QB first.
